Junior Troop 806 accepts the challenge . . .
- - Entered by troop leader Erika Herrmann

Junior Troop 806 from Virginia Beach, VA is participating in the TimeTravelers program. Some of the girls got a head start in May when we camped at Seashore State Park [First Landing State Park] and visited the visitor center. We went on a guided walk and learned about many of the plants and animals living in the park. We also turned over a lot of logs, searching for bugs! It was a rainy weekend, but we had a good time.

Our next TimeTravelers stop was at the Old Coast Guard Station on the beach. First we stopped at the Oceanfront library and everyone signed up for the Summer Reading Program. In the back of every program book is a coupon for a free visit to the Old Coast Guard Station. Girl Scouts love free things, so we walked over to the museum. We had the most fun using the camera to look at people and places around the beach.

After getting our passports stamped, we took a break outside and watched a performance of Irish dancing.

Our next stop: Yorktown!

Yorktown Victory Center.Girl Scout Junior Troop 806 continues to travel through time in the Tidewater area. Recently, we spent a day visiting four TimeTraveler sites: Yorktown Victory Center, Yorktown Visitor's Center, The Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe, and The MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk.

At the Yorktown Victory Center, we tried on colonial clothes and learned how soldiers and their families lived during the civil war. We also visited many important sites in Yorktown, including the Visitor's Center, the Thomas Nelson house and the Victory Monument.

Casemate Museum. Then we left for Fort Monroe to check out the Casemate Museum. We loved checking out the jail inside the museum and all the other artifacts from the wars.

Finally, our last visit was to the MacArthur memorial in downtown Norfolk. We learned that Mrs. MacArthur is stil alive but has a resting place ready next to the General inside the memorial. We enjoyed looking at all the Japanese items that the General was given. (Their TimeTraveler stamp was the coolest.)

At each site, we received our TimeTraveler's stamp in our passport. One of our Girl Scouts has visited 6 sites and sent away for her TimeTraveler's certificate and t-shirt. The rest of us have between 4 and 5 stamps and we're going to make one more trip to finish this project up! We want to earn the George Washington patch so we can display it proudly on our sashes and vests!
