About Virginia TimeTravelers

What parents say about TimeTravelers

<empty> <empty> I can't say enough about this program. My daughter and I had such fun doing this. As soon as her T-shirt arrived, she put it on! We had a blast and learned so much. I just stumbled on the information online and we made a point to only go places we had not been before. I teach middle school, and I have already recommended the list of sites to my students and give them credit for visiting. I will be sure to spread the word among my colleagues, so they can encourage participation in the program next year. This summer we did just day trips, but next summer we plan to go to locations farther away too.
--Susan S., Chester, VA

<empty> <empty> It makes us stop and think about places to visit other than theme parks.
--Leann F., Richmond, VA

<empty> <empty> It was fun to "get credit" for fun museum visits and to accumulate visits; it gives a sense of accomplishment to summer activities.
--Claritza S., Alexandria, VA

<empty> <empty> We have enjoyed going as a family to the many different sites and events. Some of these places we would never have visited had it not been for the passport.
--Christy B., Woodbridge, VA

<empty> <empty> Over the last three years, when we have traveled in Virginia I always look for sites to visit. I was given my first TimeTraveler flyer at the Yorktown Girl Scout camp. Our first year we visited art museums we have driven by for years without stopping. The next year we visited 2 sites in Northern Virginia which were off our beaten path. What a great experience! We learned about archeology with hands on experiences. After looking at the online site we learned about a hotair ballon festival and went about 200 miles for a wonderful time. Each year now I start looking for the flyers in early March. This year the 1607 theme was great, we took my sister and my three nephews and went to an indian reservation museum. We also discovered we enjoy kayaking ad fossil hunting at the York River State Park.
--Sheilah H., Poquoson, VA

<empty> <empty> The program is a wonderful way for the family to select historic sites they want to visit over the summer. Some places we like to visit each year. I keep the passports in a notebook with their certificate (and some photos) and it is fun to look back and remember these family trips. We try to coordinate the Time Travelers visits with the OL's that will be covered during the school year. It really is a great program! Thank you so much!
--Dawn B., Arlington, VA

<empty> <empty> We have learned so much as a result of the Time Travelers program, parents and kids. We have also visited many more places locally than I would have otherwise. I hadn't even known most of the sites even existed. The wide variety of sites makes sure it will be entertaining for the whole family.
--Kathy F., Bristow, VA

<empty> <empty> The first year we traveled to VA and started at my brother's house in Hillsville and set out towards Va Beach- stopping at spots along the way. Some we found while on the road and added to our adventure. This year my oldest daughter was in the JR NYLC for 2 wks so we did some on the way there and on the way back and my youngest while she was there. Wonderful experience and I recommend it all the time to people.
--Susan D., Sharpsburg, GA

<empty> <empty> We enjoy it alot, it gives us great ideas, and encourages us to visit museums and sites that we otherwise would never have known about.
--Mary K., Palmyra, VA

<empty> <empty> We have always enjoyed the Time Travelers program and I have recommended it to lots of families! It is an easy way to find some of the numerous places in VA to visit!
--Dawn W., Cape Charles, VA

<empty> <empty> My children love the program and tell everyone about it. They were very motivated to be master travelers. They wanted to know what came after master. It is fun to visit new places each year and also revisit old favorites. It is amazing what they remember from year to year. They look forward to our "Friday Adventures" during the summer.
--Michelle P., Prince George, VA

<empty> <empty> We absolutely LOVE this program my son is so excited to collect his stamps & patch each year it's very educational & keeps us busy over the summer, every year we make a scrapbook of our travels, and the passport has become a handy tour guide for anyone visiting Virgina all the best places to see are on the Passport! We tell everyone about this program, I dropped off passports this year to our school & bring them to my mothers groups, everyone I know loves this program we are so grateful for it!
--Darlean M., Gloucester, VA

<empty> <empty> I am a Virginia native, but have experienced more of Virginia's history over the last 7 years doing the TimeTravelers program than in the previous 33 years of my life! It has been great for all of my kids and the themes have been helpful in focusing our visits. We started when my oldest had finished Kindergarten. My youngest (7 years old) had a great love of history. I think visiting the historic sites from the time he was tiny has certainly fostered this interest. We have all grown and enjoyed our state's rich heritage through this program. It wouldn't be summer without it!
--Jennifer M., Arlington, VA

<empty> <empty> I think it is a valuable resource. It has so much museum/attraction information all together. It's much easier to look at one web site or one brochure to see what's available that it is to have to compile the information from separate books or brochures. Being able to go to the TimeTraveler web site and click directly on the link to the attraction we were going to was a big help.
--Cynthia S., Moneta, VA

<empty> <empty> We visited places in Virginia we never would have taken the time to visit.
--Doris C., Charlottesville, VA

<empty> <empty> We just moved to Virginia. The time travelers program gave us a place to find out what attractions are available to see and motivated us to seek out the attractions. We all know more about both Virginia and US history because of this experience.
--Candace D., Suffolk, VA

<empty> <empty> We love to participate in Time Travelers. We can hardly wait until next year when to Passports come out. We go looking for them. We live in Central Virginia & have family that live in the moutain region of VA and we participate with them either by heading their way or they come this way. We have visited places along the way that we have always wanted to stop by but haven't. We stopped because we had our Passports!!!! Thank you for letting us know more about VA and helping our children learn about VA history especially for their 4th grade SOLs.
--Denise B., Mechanicsville, VA

<empty> <empty> We love this program! We were introduced to it when we lived in Richmond, VA. We moved to SC three years ago, but have completed our passports each year, anyway. I wish SC had a program like this, too! My family loves visiting the sites, watching the passports fill up, and wearing the awesome t-shirts. Thanks for making this such a great program.
--Sue C., Christiansville, SC

<empty> <empty> We traveled for our 6 year old's passport. The entire family enjoyed visiting the sites. Our older children are out of school but still had a lot of fun, as did our 1 year old and the grandparents. My daughter loves learning and this was a great way to encourage and reward her. she looked forward to gettig her stamps. We have told a lot of parents about this program!
--Melissa G., Blue Ridge, VA

<empty> <empty> The TimeTravelers program was invaluable to us because we moved to Virginia in April and did not know where to take the kids on field trips. The booklet encouraged us several times to visit places we would not have thought of visiting on our own. The kids were so motivated to take the trips because they had a part in determining our destinations from their booklets. Oftentimes, we would study about the destination beforehand at the library. It was fun. The kids loved getting stamps, too.
--Tina E., Midlothian, VA

<empty> <empty> We love the Time Travelers Program. It made the transition from Ohio to Virginia an easy one. The site map, phone numbers and admission prices helped us get acquainted with the area and familiar with the state and with the wonderful history that surrounds us.
--Robin R., Virginia Beach, VA

<empty> <empty> My children ages 7 and 10 are happy with the program and enjoy visiting new places. Some places they want to go back to again. I have lived in Virginia for over 30 years and I did not know of many of the places to visit that were within 30 miles of me. I have new places to bring friends and relatives to visit now, thanks to your program.
