Did
you know?
The
Virginia TimeTravelers program promotes discovery:
- discovery
of the historic and cultural heritage in our own backyards;
- discovery
of the wealth of historic resources
throughout the Commonwealth;
- discovery
of how fascinating - and fun - learning about Virginia.
TimeTravelers
also encourages families to participate together, and gives parents
and grandparents something entertaining and educational to do with
their children.
By
encouraging children and their families to visit museums and historic
sites, the program fosters learning and an increased understanding
of Virginia history and cultural heritage.
In 2007 35% of the respondents to our online survey indicated that
they have repeated the program for at least 2 years, with 13% stating
they have participated for over 4 years.
400,000 printed passports are distributed each year through visitor
centers, libraries, schools and participating
TimeTravelers museums and historic sites.
In 2007 approximately 2,500 children visited six or more museums
with more than 800 visiting between 7 and 24 sites each.
545,000 passports were stamped at 360 participating sites in 2007!
96% of the parents responding to the 2007 online survey reported
that they felt the TimeTravelers program had enhanced their children's
education! AND 97% felt that participation in the program made them
more aware of Virginia's cultural destinations.
