Ideas for Teachers

Looking for a field trip destination? Search the Virginia Association of Museums’ database of educational programming at museums across the Commonwealth!

Students are natural explorers! Use TimeTravelers in your classroom to excite students about Virginia's wealth of places to visit and study. Along the way, learn more about Virginia, history, research, and technology. Here are some ideas for using the Virginia TimeTravelers program with your students:

  • Print the downloadable mini-passports for your students. Use these to supplement lessons on Virginia history and geography. Use the website to search for and learn about sites in Virginia that correspond with your lesson.
  • Generate parent involvement and support by using the TimeTravelers program to suggest family trips that are economical, interesting, and enriching.
  • Encourage student use of technology. Allow students free time to browse through the TimeTravelers site to sample some of the destinations listed. They will enjoy the "virtual" journey, and will gain experience in computer use.
  • Choose TimeTraveler destinations to learn more about. Send letters or e-mail to the sites to receive brochures, maps, and more information.
  • Explore the Virginia state map in the classroom. Keep a record of your students' visits to TimeTravelers sites.
  • Use the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Learning for more ideas for lesson plans using TimeTravelers.
